i devoured my book today. ptolemy's gate - 3rd book of the bartimaeous trilogy. lolz i say devoured cos i finished it in 2 days. read it with the ravenous hunger of needing to know what happened and sinking myself into the story. it was sooo interesting i couldn't put it down just had to read it finish. and as usual, after finishing an intense fantasy series, i feel the mixed emotions of being satisfied that i know the ending, and hungering for more. (tho in this case i'm just sated cos i have one more book waiting for me to read on. starcraft!!)
and as usual, let me advertise fantasy again. fantasy. cannot understand why it is held in lower opinion as people grow older. instead, the literature, the classics, the novels on society and the non fiction has become the marks of the well-educated. ok I'm not saying that these novels aren’t high brow and all, and I admit that they are powerful and really insightful at times. But fantasy! It's such a waste to give up the imagination and the magic just for... an appearance of maturity; or for any other 'better' reason. Maybe it's just that I have not grown out of it and everyone does at one point in time... but I think it's a waste if I do eventually grow out of it. The solace of plonking on the bed and just immersing myself into a story that captivates and draws me in as only a fantasy story can is quite unparalleled.
And more than ever, with the tides of reality rushing all around us, with the walls of practicality crashing around us, it is so important to keep alive our imagination, our passion and our dreams. We all need some magic in our lives.
I do believe in fairies. I do. I do.
